Chapter 6: Detoxification – Fewer toxins, less noise
Share
Toxins are everywhere. They are found in heavy metals, pesticides, additives, plastic containers, and even in natural molecules in certain foods. When the amount of toxins exceeds the body's ability to detoxify and repair, our metabolism begins to become unbalanced. But the good news is that you can reduce your daily exposure with three simple swaps that really make a difference.
This week, we're focusing on three specific changes that can help your body function optimally:
- Kitchen swap (food + heating)
- No heating in plastic. Instead, use glass, steel or ceramic for storing and heating food.
- Discard worn non-stick pans, as they can release harmful substances when heated.
- Skin & home (keep it simple)
- Go fragrance-free this week: Switch to a simple soap and an unscented cream for skin care and laundry detergents.
- Food choices light
- Choose organic for foods that typically contain the most pesticides: berries, leafy greens and apples.
Mini tracker (10 seconds every evening):
- No heating in plastic today: ✔/✖
- Fragrance-free today: ✔/✖
- Energy level at 3 p.m.: 0–3
Are you halfway through the week? Many people find that small changes in their environment have a more immediate effect than major dietary changes. When you avoid heating food in plastic, go fragrance-free and drink clean water, you may experience the following benefits within a few days:
- Evening headaches occur less frequently.
- Your skin becomes less irritated, especially on your hands and face.
- Your sleep feels deeper and more restful.
- Your focus in the afternoon becomes sharper.
Quick status update:
- Did you keep up with the kitchen swap?
- Did you go fragrance-free?
- Does the air feel cleaner?
If you haven't noticed a difference yet, that's perfectly normal. Detoxing is often about removing sources of noise – only when they are gone do you notice the silence. You are on the right track!
If you want to take it a step further, choose just one of these power moves and carry it out precisely:
- Kitchen audit (60 minutes → long-lasting effect)
- Out: Worn non-stick, scratched plastic boxes, plastic utensils exposed to heat.
- In: 2–3 glass containers with tight-fitting lids, 1 cast iron or steel pan, 1 wooden or steel utensil.
- Rule: Only heat food in glass, ceramic or steel.
- Why it works: Heat + fat + plastic/non-stick = greater risk of migration of unwanted substances.
- Dust & air (7 days → noticeable difference in airways and head)
- Wet mop floors twice and dust horizontal surfaces.
- Vacuum with a HEPA filter once (if possible).
- Ventilate with cross-ventilation for 2×10 minutes daily (morning/evening).
- Why it works: Many chemicals end up in the dust. Less dust = less inhalation.
- Plastic fast (7 days → less microplastics, fewer plasticisers)
- Avoid takeaway food in plastic/aluminium foil directly against hot food.
- Only drink from glass or steel containers throughout the week.
- Store leftovers in glass; do not place plastic film directly on hot food.
- Why it works: Hot and greasy environments increase the migration of plastic components into food and drink.
Quick troubleshooting
- Food tastes like refrigerator in glass: Use tight-fitting lids and let food cool before refrigerating.
- Missing that "smooth" pan: Use more fat on cast iron/steel and heat the pan well before adding the food.
- Forget to ventilate: Set two fixed times on your phone (e.g. 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.).
