General knowledge

Electrolytes 101

What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals – such as sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium – that the body uses to control important functions such as fluid balance, muscle contraction, nerve conduction and pH regulation. They are essential for both physical and mental function.

Why do I need them?

Electrolytes are necessary for the body to function. When you are deficient in them, you might experience fatigue, headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps or reduced focus.

Isn't water enough?

Water is essential for life – but it is not enough on its own. When you lose fluid, you also lose salts and minerals. Electrolytes are what make water functional in the body.

When should I take electrolytes?

You can take electrolytes when your body loses fluid or you have an increased need for minerals – e.g.:

  • During and after exercise
  • When using a sauna or sweating
  • When ill with fever, vomiting or diarrhoea
  • After consuming alcohol
  • After sex, if you experience fluid loss or fatigue
  • During sweaty nights or hot summer days
  • During prolonged fasting or low-carbohydrate diets

Do not exceed the daily recommended dose!

Is it safe to take daily?

Yes – for the vast majority of healthy people, daily use of electrolytes is completely harmless and often beneficial. However, if you have a medical condition such as kidney disease, high blood pressure or are taking diuretic medication, you should consult your doctor before starting regular use.

What is the difference between electrolyte powder and sports drinks?

Many sports drinks contain large amounts of sugar, artificial colours and only very small amounts of electrolytes.

Are all electrolytes the same?

No – the quality varies greatly. Some contain only sodium, others use different forms of minerals that not from a bioavailable source. Other differences are:

  • With / without sugar
  • Minerals from  bioavailable sources (such as magnesium bisglycinate)
  • Transparent declaration vs. a lot of filler
  • Officially "High" doses vs. just listing the ingredients

Don't we already eat too much salt?

The salt that many people do get unfortunately comes in processed foods. If you eat healthily, exercise, fast, sweat or eat a low-carbohydrate diet, your needs might be different.

Note: The governmental recommendation is to reduce your salt intake.

Can you meet your needs through your diet?

Theoretically, yes. But in practice, it requires large amounts of vegetables, broth and mineral-rich foods. Modern agricultural land is often depleted, and the electrolyte content in food is lower than in the past.

Can I take too much?

Yes, it is possible, especially at very high doses without need. Stick to the recommended dose and adjust according to sweat loss and lifestyle.

Are electrolytes only for athletes?

No. Everyone can use electrolytes – but the amount varies. Exercise, sweating and fasting can increase the need.

Congrats, you now know the basic of how electrolytes work!

Product & Usage

How often should I take Salty?

Many people use the product in the morning or after activity—but the most important thing is that it becomes part of your daily routine. Use as needed, as part of your daily hydration routine.

How much is one serving?

One serving corresponds to 7,0 g (circa 1 full teaspoon) dissolved in 500 ml or more of water. You can adjust the amount of water depending on how ‘salty’ you prefer the taste.

Is Salty Health available in other flavours?

Salty is currently only available in a neutral, slighlty lemon flavour. It has been deliberately formulated not to be artificially sweet, so you can use it every day without getting tired of the taste.

Is Salty Health different from other electrolytes?

High in Magnesium, Sodium, and Zinc
We didn't just sprinkle ingredients into the mix to list them on the label. Our formula meets regulatory thresholds to be officially high in magnesium, sodium, and zinc.

Premium Ingredients from Bioavailable Sources
We use ingredients such as Himalayan salt or Magnesium Bisglycinate from bioavailable sources.

Glycine as an Additional Ingredient
Since it has a slightly sweet taste, it is also added instead of sugar.

Sugar-free
Our electrolytes are declared sugar-free.

42 Servings per Jar
For people who live an active lifestyle, take electrolytes daily, or share with friends, 20 or 30 servings per pack are simply not enough. 42 is.

Made in Denmark
Produced locally under strict Danish and EU supplement regulations. Every batch meets high standards for safety, purity, and transparency.

Packaged in Glass
We use violet glass jars to avoid microplastic exposure as much as possible and protect the ingredients from harmful light.

Actually Tastes Good
While function has the highest priority, we have added natural lemon and stevia from a natural source to create a pleasant taste.

Does Salty Health replace my magnesium supplement?

Short answer: Yes. There is 250 mg Magnesium in Salty. Most pure magnesium supplements have similar or even less active magnesium.
250 mg is also well above the threshold of being officially "High in Magnesium".

If you have medical conditions that require extra magnesium, please consult your doctor.

What are all the ingredients?

Since not all minerals exist in their pure form it is important to see both: the actual ingredient and the corresponding active mineral.

Glycine
  • is an amino acid

Steviol glycosides
  • act as natural sweetener derived from the stevia plant.
  • contains zero calories
  • contains no sugar

What is glycine?

Glycine is a simple amino acid.

Note: No official health claims regarding glycine have been approved yet by the regulatory bodies.

What if there are leftovers at the bottom after drinking?

Salty Health is packed with powerful minerals. Not all of them dissolve equally in water. We recommend occasionally shaking or stirring your glass to ensure all ingredients are evenly mixed.

If you notice a bit of residue at the bottom of your glass, simply pour in some water, stir it, and drink it. It’s good stuff — you don’t want to miss out!

What do Salty Health electrolytes taste like?

Why don't you include a little plastic spoon?

We strive to minimize plastic waste. Since a teaspoon is a common household item, we encourage you to use one instead of providing unnecessary plastic.
Also, by constantly touching and reusing the same plastic spoon you potentially introduce bacteria into the jar.

What is a biophotonic violet glass?

Biophotonic glass is a special type of violet glass that helps protect the contents from harmful light exposure, preserving freshness and potency for longer.

It filters out the 'good' and 'bad' frequencies of the light, in particular UV & infrared. That means that all the light that harms content is blocked off, and the UV light that actually protects the content (think of UV disinfection) is allowed to enter the glass. This increases the shelf life and helps to maintain the purity of the electrolytes.

Where are the elctrolytes made?

Our electrolytes are produced in Denmark in compliance with strict Danish and European quality and safety standards.

Can I recycle the glass?

Yes! Our packaging is designed to be reusable, refillable or recyclable.

Can I buy the refill pouch separately?

No. It is currently not possible to buy the refill pouch separately.

How much is in a refill pouch?

300 g - the same as in a jar, which will last for about one month.

What can be done against clumping?

We do not use chemicals such as silicon dioxide, which are commonly used to help powder dissolve evenly. Salty Health is as clean as possible, which means it might clump a bit. To avoid that, do the following:

  • Put one serving in water
  • Stir
  • Wait for 30 seconds
  • Stir again
